The Development Director is responsible for managing a team of 10 -15 developers spanning two or more major functional areas of core development. Each major functional area has a Technical Team Lead and/or Development Manager. The Development Director has full ownership of, and accountability for, all major functional areas that comprise their Product group. The role demands a balance of technical leadership and general management in an effort to consistently deliver high quality products to our customers. As part of the technology management team reporting to the Senior Director, Global Technology, the role has the following responsibilities:
Develop and maintain project plans to support all development activities

Collaborate with Product/Project Management, Quality Assurance, Technical Writing, and Operations to support the execution of all project plans

Participate in the discovery, management, reporting, and escalation of all significant technical issues and risks
Maintain a high-level understanding of all functional requirements

Participate in the analysis and management of all critical technical design issues

Ensure all projects are managed to plan

Ensure all development standards are adhered to

Ensure all project deliverables meet release criteria established by Product Management
Direct the hiring process

Direct the on-boarding and training process

Direct the annual performance review process

Participate in budget planning as required

Work to maintain and support the working culture.

Interface with customers where required

Support bid activities

Support new business development initiatives through research of emerging standards and prototyping of trial systems

Migrate prototypes to production ready systems as required
Proven track record for managing high volume, high availability, critical system client-server development in Unix based environs; working with native Java development, Perl, and C

Proven track record for managing high performance development teams

Minimum of 12 years of software development experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Development Manager

Strong foundation in software development methodologies

Strong project management skills

Strong personnel management skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

University degree in Computer Science or related field

Post-secondary education in Business related disciplines.
