Our client is an international communications and network company offering turnkey voice, data and video telecommunications services for land-based customers including telecoms operators, non-governmental organizations, Internet service providers, and large corporate entities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Our client also serves the defence market with tailor-made communications systems and the carrier voice market with direct routes into Africa and the Middle East.
They provide access to a high-performance Internet backbone, VoIP gateways and exchange for international voice termination services, as well as customized and tailor-made networks.
They are currently seeking interest from Systems Administrators who would be based at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan. Please note this is a bid situation and the job vacancy will only be confirmed if our client is successful in their bid.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the network components that route and switch data across the entire theatre within a signals support group.
Reporting into the Lead Networks Controller, the successful candidate will monitor and maintain the Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) and will ensure proper implementation of all network policies and procedures, create /update Standard Operating Procedures relating to LAN/WAN functions.
You will install, maintain and troubleshoot network equipment to include routers and
switches in support of all NCSA systems deployed in ISAF, and on all security domains.
You will perform fault and problem management to ensure services are maintained according to the defined levels.
You will use local and NATO trouble ticketing procedures as required, produce network configuration documentation and designs and will work closely with bearer network personnel to ensure network dependencies are maintained.
You will work closely with ISAF crypto cell to ensure crypto is maintained properly for
Networks and will be responsible for the configuration, control, security, and connectivity of all critical network components (i.e., routers, switches, etc.) in the ISAF AOO.
Finally you will report all significant network activity to the Lead Networks Controller, assist the Helpdesks and System Admin in restoration of network services, maintain monitoring tools and updates to current network configuration and provide network administration training as required.

Knowledge and Skills:
You should be an accomplished Network Administrator and have significant experience in the operation and control of data networks and systems, ideally within a military environment at some stage in your career.
Your practical experience should be supported by you being a CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or a CISCO Certified Design Associate (CCDA).
You should possess in-depth experience with network monitoring tools in an enterprise network and have practical experience with management, operation, and routine maintenance procedures of information systems.
You should be experienced in troubleshooting in a mixed vendor network environment and in a Cisco environment.
You should have experience with various network protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), encryption devices and experience with telecommunications solutions and have good overall knowledge of computer hardware and software.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and excellent analytical skills and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence.
Candidates should ideally have NATO Secret Clearance or their own national country security clearance.
This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Network Administrator looking for something different.
The position is offered on a 1 year renewable contract renewable up to a maximum of 3 years. Please note in terms of nationality, Candidates must come from a NATO member country.
In addition to a negotiated basic salary which for an Ex-Patriate employee will be tax free the work rota will be 290 days worked indicating 8 weeks on and 2 weeks off.
