Our client is an international communications and network company offering turnkey voice, data and video telecommunications services for land-based customers including telecoms operators, non-governmental organizations, Internet service providers, and large corporate entities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Our client also serves the defence market with tailor-made communications systems and the carrier voice market with direct routes into Africa and the Middle East.
They provide access to a high-performance Internet backbone, VoIP gateways and exchange for international voice termination services, as well as customized and tailor-made networks.
They are currently seeking interest from Systems Administrators who would be based at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan. Please note this is a bid situation and the job vacancy will only be confirmed if our client is successful in their bid.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the core network which will include domain controllers, electronic mail servers, back up servers and related systems within a signals support group.
Reporting into the Chief Systems Administration the successful candidate will manage NATO Unclassified, ISAF Secret, and NATO Secret Networks.
You will manage the creation and removal of user accounts, install and remove hardware and software, reset passwords, manage, support and maintain mail services, gateway and internet proxies.
You will produce server configuration reports and will ensure that backups are executed and completed as scheduled.
You will maintain servers and applies patches and upgrades, maintain and control storage devices, support installation, operation and maintenance of NATO/ISAF Functional Area
Services in close cooperation with FAS managers.
You will provide support to the ISAF theatre service desk for system admin related problems.
You will provide updates and create trouble tickets in detail with pertinent information, ensure server rooms meet operational conditions and request maintenance as required.
You will collect and analyze statistics for capacity planning, follow standard operating procedures for automated data processes (e.g. server management, system administration tasks).
You will produce security reports on violations and maintains historical records of both
frequent and uncommon violations in close cooperation with the Chief Information Security, documenting the configuration of CIS systems for configuration management purposes.
You will be responsible for system performance tuning and disaster recovery planning and will deploy to sites across theatre as mobile communications team for system admin
support.
Finally you will perform system-wide backups, and load and capacity planning and management, produce and update standard operating procedures for automated data processes (e.g. server management, system administration tasks), provide system administration training to CIS POCs as required and provide web server administration and configuration.

Knowledge and Skills:
You should be an accomplished Systems Administrator and have significant experience administering complex network environments, ideally within a military environment at some stage in your career.
Your practical experience should be supported by being a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer or equivalent experience and an A+ certified hardware technician or equivalent.
You must be familiar with both stand-alone and network operations and have experience in scripting languages.
You must have extensive experience with Web servers administration (IIS and Apache), experience of using Microsoft Windows Applications and knowledge of Windows Server/Exchange.
You must have good overall knowledge of computer hardware and software with solid experience of supporting and troubleshooting Server OS and hardware.
You will be experienced with system administration monitoring tools, possess knowledge of networking principles and troubleshooting experience and have experience with WSUS and ePO.
You should possess excellent communication skills in English and excellent analytical skills and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.
Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence.
Candidates should ideally have NATO Secret Clearance or their own national country security clearance.
This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Systems Administrator looking for something different.
The position is offered on a 1 year renewable contract renewable up to a maximum of 3 years. Please note in terms of nationality, Candidates must come from a NATO member country.
In addition to a negotiated basic salary which for an Ex-Patriate employee will be tax free the work rota will be 290 days worked indicating 8 weeks on and 2 weeks off.
