Service Desk Specialist
Our client is an international communications and network company offering turnkey voice, data and video telecommunications services for land-based customers including telecoms operators, non-governmental organizations, internet service providers, and large corporate entities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Our client also serves the defence market with tailor-made communications systems and the carrier voice market with direct routes into Africa and the Middle East.
They provide access to a high-performance Internet backbone, VoIP gateways and exchange for international voice termination services, as well as customized and tailor-made networks.

They are currently seeking interest from Service Desk Specialists who would be based at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan. Please note this is a bid situation and the job vacancy will only be confirmed if our client is successful in their bid.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating the service desk and trouble shooting IS problems for computer users within a signals support group.

Reporting into the Service Desk Chief, the successful candidate will be responsible for the receipt of problem reports and the coordination of appropriate and timely responses, including channeling requests for help to appropriate System Managers for resolution, monitoring progress and keeping users apprised of progress.

You will be the First Point of Contact for end users submitting requests for assistance at COMKAF and will resolve Level I user CIS problems/issues.

You will resolve existing LAN/WAN user and email account problems, interface with CIS users for service desk related Installation, Maintenance and Change requests.

You will dispatch to provide second level support to common application and OS related
issues to end users, you will manage the ticketing system queue according to priority and will ensure timely and accurate updates to ticket history.

You will observe service catalogue guidelines ensuring requests are resolved and closed
within the established time tables.

You will follow and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and highlight changes required to documentation responsible parties and will follow and maintain industry best practices.

Finally you will escalate tickets to other support groups internal and external to the Kandahar AOO, provide trouble ticket training as required, provide basic hardware and connectivity troubleshooting and will carry out the administration and troubleshooting of cellular telephone devices and radios.

Knowledge and Skills:

You should be an accomplished Service Desk Specialist and have significant experience working in a large service/help desk environment, ideally within a military environment at some stage in your career.

You will have experience of facing customers in a demanding environment and possess good communication skills and be customer service oriented.

You should be thoroughly knowledgeable on office automation software, basic networking principles and troubleshooting experience.

You will have experience of supporting Microsoft applications suite, experience with various ticketing systems and have hardware support and troubleshooting experience.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and excellent analytical skills and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.

Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence.

Candidates should ideally have NATO Secret Clearance or their own national country security clearance.

This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Service Desk professional looking for something different.

The position is offered on a 1 year renewable contract renewable up to a maximum of 3 years. Please note in terms of nationality, Candidates must come from a NATO member country.

In addition to a negotiated basic salary which for an Ex-Patriate employee will be tax free the work rota will be 290 days worked indicating 8 weeks on and 2 weeks off. In addition you will receive free accommodation, food, medical insurance, work clothes and security clothing and free leave flights.
